“Whose white raven is this?”
Aleks Mickelsen is a changeling with diminishing magical powers and a complete nuisance for a new a pet. For the first time in his life, he’s lost. He led his friends to the wrong place. They might joke about there being worse things to face than disorientation, but comparing what Aleks did to the Wild Hunt breathing down their necks (even if the comparison is somewhat favorable) isn’t all that comforting. Hopefully, Aleks can get his head on straight and get them all back on track to fighting Fritjof, otherwise chaos is going to win.
The fifth book in the Zaria Fierce series, Aleks Mickelsen and the Call of the White Raven picks up immediately after the fourth book left off.
I was happy to see this start with a prologue that recaps the previous book as it’s a direct continuation and it had been a while since I’d finished book four. Readers who like to binge their series might find this overkill, but those who don’t mind spacing them out will find this to be just as helpful as I did.
Much like the rest of the series, this book is full of adventures for this group of friends. Every chapter brings new hurdles for them to overcome as a group, and also for Aleks personally as he comes to term with his identity. Although this is very much a plot driven story, the character growth is great to watch and easy to identify with.
Overall, Aleks Mickelsen and the Call of the White Raven continues to be just as fun and charming as the rest of this series! I look forward to see what happens in the next installment.
