June Reading Wrap Up

June 2019 Reading Wrap UpI have no idea how this works, but June seemed to both drag and fly by at the same time. Does time ever seem to flex that way for you?

That being said, I had a fantastic reading month. I wound up rating every book I read at least a three, and three books hit full marks for me! I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen before. It’s pretty exhilarating to be on a such a kick of great books and I’m just hoping it continues…

May Reading Wrap Up

May 2019 Reading Wrap UpMay was a full month of fun plans and plenty of reading, and it flew by in the blink of an eye!

This was a great month of books for me. I enjoyed a variety of genres, from suspense and thrillers to science fiction and contemporary to historical fiction. With the exception of one book I decided to DNF for now, I wound up rating everything I read at least a three, and two books a full five out of five! You can’t really get much better than that.

April Reading Wrap Up

April Reading Wrap UpApril was overall a great month of reading! I completed nine books, which is more than my average (although I’m not entirely sure how). And the majority of what I read I wound up rating a four. After the March I had, this was more than a few steps up and I’m feeling much better about choosing the right books for me.

I’m also happy to have knocked some backlist books that I’ve owned for a while off my list. As it stands now, I own 171 books that I haven’t yet read and I’d like to get that down to 155 by the end of the year. If I keep up this rate of at least two per month, that should be achievable.

Anyway. Ready to see what I read and reviewed in April?

March Reading Wrap Up

March Reading Wrap UpMarch was a fairly middling month of reading for me. I completed eight books this month (not counting one book I didn’t finish) and most of what I read was average with a rating of a three, with one four star read, and ending strong with a five star read. I’m so glad to have ended March on a high note as I was starting to think I was on a streak of not picking the right books for me. That, combined with the weather finally starting to warm up, has me in a good mood with high hopes for what’s next!

February Reading Wrap Up

February Reading Wrap UpFebruary was a really good month for me overall! For starters, it’s my birthday month and I was able to celebrate with family and friends multiple times. And I read some really good books too!

I started the month out with a bang with a book I devoured and wound up rating a five. Most everything else I read was good to great for me, along with a reread of Harry Potter when I was in need of some comfort listening. I did come across one book that just didn’t keep my interest and wound up not finishing. But I’m trying to get better at putting books down when they don’t work for me, so I’m actually counting that as a win.

January Reading Wrap Up

January Reading Wrap UpI don’t know what it’s like where you live, but January by me got way too cold! So naturally, I spent plenty of time snuggled up with a blanket and a book. (Along with plenty of Netflix time as well, who am I kidding??) The majority of the books I read were middle of the road for me, with a few notable standouts. Overall it wasn’t a bad reading month but I’m hoping February is even better!

December (& 2018) Reading Wrap Up

December Reading Wrap UpDecember always goes by so quickly! I get so excited for the Christmas season and then it passes by in the blink of an eye. But even with all the holiday celebrations, I managed to read quite a few books more than I expected!

I also wanted to take this opportunity to revisit my 2018 bookish goals. I had an idea in my head of how well I did with accomplishing these goals, but actually checking and writing this out helped me determine what really worked for me this year and how I want to adjust my goals/reading habits for 2019.

Click on through to see everything I reviewed, read, and wrote in December, along with a recap of my 2018 goals and how they fared…

Top 10 New Releases I Read in 2018

Top 10 new releases I read in 2018

How was everyone’s Christmas?! I had a blast celebrating with family and friends and have since been relishing having the week between Christmas and New Year’s off for the first time in over a decade! It feels like such a luxury to be able to sleep in after a busy holiday season and I am loving it.

My previous post shared my favorite backlist books I read this year and now it’s time to talk about my top ten new releases from 2018! While I was surprised at the wide range of genres in my favorite backlist books, this list does include a fair amount more of mysteries and thrillers. There is some variety here, though, and I’m really glad to have read each of these books.

Let’s see my picks now, shall we?

Top 10 Backlist Books I Read in 2018

Top 10 backlist books I read in 2018

It’s that time of year to look back on the past twelve months of reading and decide on “best of” lists!

This year I decided to break it up into two lists: backlist books and books published in 2018. I had a few reasons for this decision:

1- I read more this year and therefore had more to choose from.

2- About half of the books I read this year were review copies and wanted to spread the love evenly.

3- What’s life without whimsy? (unapologetic Big Bang Theory reference)

My biggest surprise of this list is the wide variety of genres it includes. For someone who proclaims to favor mystery, thriller, and suspense, there’s a fair amount of fantasy and dystopian on this list – and even two nonfiction!

November Reading Wrap Up

November Reading Wrap UpNovember passed by in such a blur! My husband and I hosted both a Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving, which involved lots of prep work and cleaning, followed by even more cleaning. And as per our usual tradition, we decorated the house for Christmas in the weekend after Thanksgiving, which makes me a very happy camper!

It’s amazing that I found enough time amidst all the craziness to read nine books. Sometimes people ask me how I manage to read as much as I do and I honestly don’t even know. It’s like sleeping or eating. I don’t know how not to read!
