9 Books I’m Excited to Read in 2020

9 Books I'm Excited to Read in 2020

Happy 2020! To ring in the new year, today I want to share some of the books I’m excited for in the upcoming months.

This list is VERY heavy on thrillers, a handful of which are from authors I’ve read and loved before. And the remaining thrillers just sound so interesting! There is one contemporary novel and one young adult fantasy to round out the list.

Regardless of genre, I have high hopes for all of these books! Ready to see them?

6 Best New Books I Read in 2019

6 Best New Books I Read in 2019

Merry Christmas! (And Happy Holidays to anyone who celebrates any other holiday this season!)

As the year comes to a close, I’m excited to share my favorite books that I read in 2019! Last week I posted a list of the 6 best backlist books I read. But today I’d like to talk about the 6 best new releases I read in 2019.

There is something of a theme in this list, as I read a whole slew of books about books this year and more than one slid easily onto my favorites list. They are all unique, though, with different bookish spins. And rounding out the list are a fantasy and science fiction thriller. Surprisingly, there are no mysteries on this list! What is even real anymore?

Anyway, ready to see the books?

6 Best Backlist Books I Read in 2019

6 Best Backlist Books I Read in 2019

For the past couple years, I’ve shared my top 10 books from the year, whether overall in 2017 or split into backlist and new releases in 2018. Each time I had a handful of five star reads and would have to fill out the list by selecting my favorite four star books. But this year, I decided to keep it just to the books I rated a full five out of five. Because why share anything but the best?

So today I’m sharing the six best backlist books I read in 2019 (not including those that were re-reads). They were all still published fairly recently, the oldest one from 2014. Which possibly speaks to the fact that I read more newer books this year than older ones, and is something I’d like to balance out better for 2020. But that’s a post for another day.

November Reading Wrap Up

November 2019 Reading Wrap UpHappy Thanksgiving!

November was a bit of a blur for me as a flurry of colds hit our household and just doing the necessary daily chores was all I could think about some days. I am glad that bout of sickness has passed and hoping it doesn’t come our way again this season!

In bookish news, I read a handful of books this month. They were a good mix of backlist books and advance copies I was excited for. I enjoyed them all and more than half got a four out of five rating!

October Reading Wrap Up

October 2019 Reading Wrap UpOctober finally brought fall weather in my neighborhood and I was so ready for the colorful leaves and the chance to start cozying up in layers again. I’ve also started to find a new routine, which has helped me figure out pockets of time that work best for reading.

As far as the books I read this month, most were fairly middling. In my effort to read more backlist books that I got as deals for my nook, I did start several books that I didn’t finish. But I did read two new books that were above average, and one wound up being a new favorite!

September Reading Wrap Up

September 2019 Reading Wrap UpSeptember flew by in such a blur! My husband and I were blessed with a baby who manages to sleep in two long chunks at nighttime at only a few weeks old (he takes after his mom!) but even with getting more sleep than expected, life with a newborn is definitely a whirlwind.

With that, I wasn’t sure how much reading I’d actually get to but was pleasantly surprised to be able to complete a few this month. Using my nook (and nook app on my phone) really helped as I could easily read for just a few minutes at a time wherever I happened to be when I had time to spare. And I found another favorite book of the year!

August Reading Wrap Up

August 2019 Reading Wrap UpAugust was a month of transition for me. Between stopping full time work, prepping for baby, and baby’s final arrival (over a week after my due date!), a lot changed over these 31 days.

With everything going on, I’m not surprised that I wound up reading less than usual. And without a half hour commute to and from work every day, my audiobook consumption was next to nothing – which hasn’t happened for me in quite some time! Overall though, I’m happy with what I read in August. I rated each book at least a three and happened upon one that will definitely make my favorites for the year!

July Reading Wrap Up

July 2019 Reading Wrap UpJuly passed by in a complete blur! A lot of it was spent prepping for baby, and I’ve started slowing down, so it seemingly went by even faster than normal.

That being said, I still managed to complete a good number of books in July. All of them were solid reads and many warranted at least a four out of five rating. All in all, this may not have been the best reading month I’ve ever had but it was pretty satisfying all things considered.

June Reading Wrap Up

June 2019 Reading Wrap UpI have no idea how this works, but June seemed to both drag and fly by at the same time. Does time ever seem to flex that way for you?

That being said, I had a fantastic reading month. I wound up rating every book I read at least a three, and three books hit full marks for me! I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen before. It’s pretty exhilarating to be on a such a kick of great books and I’m just hoping it continues…

May Reading Wrap Up

May 2019 Reading Wrap UpMay was a full month of fun plans and plenty of reading, and it flew by in the blink of an eye!

This was a great month of books for me. I enjoyed a variety of genres, from suspense and thrillers to science fiction and contemporary to historical fiction. With the exception of one book I decided to DNF for now, I wound up rating everything I read at least a three, and two books a full five out of five! You can’t really get much better than that.
